The Black Knights Chess Association was formed in 2016. One of the goals of the program is to challenge school age students mentally while providing them some of the tools they'll need to get through life.
Two years after the start of our program, we put our first chess team together. There was a total of 10 team members who were all new to chess. They competed in their first tournament, and we were all pleased and surprised with the results. For the next year and a half, we've won several team trophies, and several first, second and third place trophies.
Chess is a game that requires, patience, strategic planning and problem-solving skills. Although this may be difficult for some, our program works with students diligently to help them reach their full potential. We're not guaranteeing that you will gain a grand master, but you will gain a student(s) who are very knowledgeable of the game.
Our rigorous program is designed to teach life lessons through the game of chess while improving social behaviors, interactions and skills. We use various tactics to determine what is needed by each student to excel at this game.
